Right now, BHRSC has many "senior" hounds available for adoption.  Seniors are wiser, wonderful and sincerely appreciate the love of a human.  BHRSC is celebrating the beautiful senior hounds that are currently available for adoption at, "A Senior Moment."In addition to meeting the "senior" BHRSC hounds, you can tour the Dogma Pet Portraits studio, schedule a photo design appointment, buy some goodies from the fundraising bake sale and have an opportunity to win a raffle prize.  Light…See More

For my Sawyer

Today I lost my friend.  I remeber when we brought him home.  He was only 4 months old and by the breeder that we got him from he was too old and that is why she was discounting him.  He was always a good Dog, well except maybe stealing a few lunches and well maybe there was the couch that he ate... but he was always there for a belly rub or just to lay with you.  He always seem to know which one.  He had a way to look at you that just made you want to hug him instead of scolding him.  We…

In Memory of Chloe

Chloe was by far the funniest, sweetest, and most loving dog I have ever known.  Despite having a rubber band twisted so tightly around her ear that it left a permanent stripe, she never let it ruin her spirit.  Even after throwing a fit at the vet during her nail trimmings that required her to be muzzled and held down, she would still wag her tail and give kisses to the doctors afterwards.

She would howl at her best doggie friends on our walks just to say hi, and would inevitably…

Looking for a Basset to love

I am a new college grad and am beginning my professional life.  I am looking for a basset to go on walks with, to the dog park and cuddle with. I joined so I could learn more about how to be a great basset hound owner and get ideas before I settle down with my "forever friend".

So far: I fall in love with every basset and most basset mixes i see. Something about those beautiful hound faces :)

I want a dog that is no longer a puppy but also a dog young enough to be my…

worst guard dog ever!!!

Believe it. Everytime someone new comes to the house, Fred is wagging his tail, sniffing the new person, begging for attention. Its kind of embarrasing that he doesn't even make any attempt to even growl at anyone, I tried to tell him a few times "Fred, SIC HIM/HER"... and what does he do? Look at me with those sad eyes, look at the people I want him to attack and goes on to waggin his tail again. I think I am gonna go and hide my face in shame.......

CHECK OUT BASSET HOUND WEBSITES...

Artful Hounds Renee Bane of BHRSC has a creative and fun way to display your love of bassets. Check out her website for yard or wall art, basset hound clocks and leashes.

Go to: http://www.bhrsc.info/ and see all the Basset Hounds looking for forever homes; adoption procedures; volunteering, fostering and everything Basset Hound.

Here's a great web site if you're looking for help when a hound has crossed the rainbow bridge. I've purchased items from them (a marker for my sweet Penny) and they were fantastic in delivering the order and sent a condolence card.

Here's a great site for artwork and all things hounds. They've supported BHRSC with cards and stickers. I can't say enough positive things about this organization.

It's become increasingly difficult to keep unauthorized individuals off - so I've found it necessary for future members to apply for access.
